This was a wonderful family experience that lived up to everything I hoped for. We almost didn’t make it because the bus was running late, but they waited in the heat for us. Grazie Mille!!
The tour guide was very friendly and extremely courteous, especially with the younger children who were in the group, to relate the experience and stay informative.

The guide himself was friendly and provided decent information on what we saw, once we began. However, we began the tour 1 hour after expected due to administrative oversight of not having headphones ready. 1 of our family’s headphones did not work and my family spent time trying to figure this out, missing part of the information. Our reservation online said it included the basilica and we paid for the basilica but the tour guide ended the tour after showing us the Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel with no explanation as to why we weren’t also seeing the basilica. This was disappointing and extra stressful with 3 small children.

Tour guide was thorough and well-versed in the relevant historical context. He was engaging, entertained questions, clear, and catered well to the younger members of our tour group (which was only 9 people -- an added bonus). Locating the meeting spot was easy, and it was close to the Vatican entry point. The only snag (which was COVID-19 related) had to do with the tour itself -- though specifically mentioned in the description, St. Peter's Basilica was not included because the passageway that connects it to the Sistine Chapel was closed. So we had to individually go around and enter the Basilica on our own (entry was free, and the line wasn't long). The Museum and Sistine Chapel were, of course, magnificent. Be aware that visitors are not allowed to take pictures inside the Sistine Chapel (you can snap away everywhere else), and discussion must be kept to a minimum -- yes, they'll yell at you and, if necessary, remove you for not observing the rules. If you plan to tour the Vatican during the second half of 2020, expect to wear a mask throughout the entire tour (approximately 3 hours).
