Stop At: IDS Crystal Court

We'll meet near the waterfall fountain in the Crystal Court atrium of the IDS Center in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. From here, we'll walk outdoors along lively Nicollet Mall and beyond to experience the parks, fountains and sculpture that is so important to cultural life in the city.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Nicollet Mall

We'll traverse the outdoor pedestrian transit plaza of Nicollet Mall past colorful sidewalk cafes (in season) to the the modernist Peavey Plaza. Along the way, you'll hear anecdotes about Minnesota culture as well as life in the city.

Stop At: Peavey Plaza

Next, you'll explore the cascading waterfalls, grassy lawn and reflective wading pool of Peavey Plaza, an astonishing oasis of modernist architecture that anchors one end of Nicollet Mall. Barefoot wading encouraged! (Available in-season only.)

Stop At: Loring Park

From Nicollet Mall, we'll meander the charming Loring Greenway and encounter downtown workers on their way to or from the office, residents walking dogs or out for a run, families with kids and skateboarding youth. Then we'll proceed onto the winding trails through popular and busy Loring Park, the Minneapolis version of Central Park, with its ponds, gardens, sport courts and wildlife.

Stop At: Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

Walking from park to park via connected paths and an extraordinary footbridge, itself a famous sculptural creation, we'll find ourselves in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, a beloved destination that blends a city park with modern art curated by the adjacent, world-renowned pillar of modern art, The Walker Art Center. We'll stroll through the garden, admire the sculptures, hear stories about Minneapolis parks and people, and even snap some memorable photos.

Luckily, we'll have time for a quick snack of fresh caramel corn or chocolates from world-famous Candyland (purchased on own).
