Stop At: Wajima Morning Market, 1-115 Kawaimachi Honmachidori, Wajima 928-0001 Ishikawa Prefecture

After a walk around the morning market, the guide will take the group to Hiyoshi Sake Brewery to sample their sake, learn about their products, and perhaps even purchase some. Depending on the season, on some days the group may also be able to enjoy a tour of the brewery, or learn about the sake-making process from the toji, or head brewer. However, we won’t know if they can offer a tour until after the group arrives at the brewery; this is the brewers’ workplace, so on some days, they have to focus on their sake-making work, in which case they can’t open the brewery to the public.
The Wajima Morning Market is considered one of the Three Great Morning Markets of Japan, and boasts over 1,000 years of history. Some 200 stalls line the 360-meter road, selling fresh and dried seafood, vegetables, folk crafts, and more, for a market atmosphere that has been enjoyed by countless generations. This market draws both locals and many visitors, every day, and is known for the sense of human warmth and closeness that comes from interacting directly with the lively old ladies selling their wares.

Stop At: Michi-no-Eki Senmaida Pocket Park, 99-5 Shiroyonemachi, Wajima 928-0256 Ishikawa Prefecture

The Senmaida rice terraces consist of numerous small terraced rice fields along the coast, layered and arranged almost like fish scales, and considered a scene of the old Japan. They have been designated by the national government as a historic site, a place of scenic beauty, and a natural monument, and they are a truly breathtaking sight through all four seasons.

Stop At: Nanao, Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, Hokuriku, Chubu

Lunch in Nakajima
The town of Nakajima is famous for the many small shops and restaurants that sell oysters during the town’s oyster festival, held every winter. What better place to enjoy a full-course oyster lunch, then, than Nakajima? Savor oysters on the half-shell, fried oysters, oyster rice, and other delicious dishes made with mineral-rich oysters from Nakajima, raised in the placid waters of Nanao Bay.

Duration: 1 hour 10 minutes

Stop At: Keta Taisha, 1-1 Ku, Jikemachi, Hakui 925-0003 Ishikawa Prefecture

Keta Taisha Shrine
Our tour of the Noto Peninsula ends with a visit to Keta Taisha Shrine, a historic shrine built over 2,000 years ago. The solemn shrine grounds are home to a haiden hall of worship and shrine gate that are both nationally registered as important cultural properties. Keta Taisha Shrine has long been revered by many faiths, as a shrine where people come together. Experience a guided visit to this famous shrine, including a lesson on how to properly pay your respects at a Shinto shrine, and omikuji fortune-telling.
