Stop At: Wat Mahawan

Wat Mahawan is a lovely wat with all the typical temple features. However, it is the white stupa behind that steals the show! Glistening in the sun, a beautiful contrast to the red brick of the wat. you would go out of my way to see this stupa again. Enjoy!

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Tha Phae Gate

omantic, Beautiful, Enchanting - these are the three words that I could sum up experiencing one of Chiang Mai's historic gates - The Tha Phae gate. When the city was founded by King Mangrai in 1296 these gates together with other gates (Chang Puak, Chiang Mai, Pratu Soan Dok) protect the old city. Tha Phae gate lies on the east of the city and made of Red bricks stone. Like the other gates, the original water moat is still surrounding it. Today Tha Phae gate is like the central square of Chiang Mai's old city where tourists and locals alike relax, enjoy, taking photos/videos, celebrate and just have fun.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Wat Phan On Temple

The temple complex consists of a large viharn, a golden chedi and the kuti or monks living quarters. The Wat Phan On temple holds one of the most beautiful chedis in Chiang Mai.

Chiang mai has a lot of buddha temples and they all are very close to each other. While walking through the sunday night bazaar i visited 3 temples and this was one of them. Crowded on Sundays specially because of the market.

Stop At: Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara

First of all the remains of the Chedi, dated to the 14th century, and the great and impressive viharn with the big Buddha with its raised right hand preventing relatives to fight, and also signifies Peace to the World. Pay also attention to the statues if the munks looking so alive that it is hard to understand that they are not.... And for the males: visit the real pearl: the Inthakhin Pillar Vihara ! Entrance for women is forbidden.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Three Kings Monument

Great historical and cultural area of Chiang Mai. The three kings monument is close to the museum and cultural centre and is a great place to understand the history of the place. Easy to understand with most information in English. Recommend for sure.

Stop At: Wat Phra Singh

You can see why they call it the Gold Temple. The structures are beautiful and ornate. In one of the temples there are 10 sitting Buddhist monks. It took me a minute to realize that they were not real. They are so life-like. The detail in the statues is incredible.
