This 2-hour swamp tour of New Orleans starts with pickup from your downtown hotel. After a 35-minute drive by air-conditioned van, you'll arrive at your destination. Meet your airboat captain and settle into your seat on the 16-passenger vessel, then prepare for a wild ride into the swamp.

Powered by a 454 Chevy engine and propelled by huge fans, the airboat travels at speeds up to 25 miles per hour (40 kph). The captain performs exhilarating high-speed maneuvers, cruises at gentle speeds, and makes plenty of photo stops while narrating on the wildlife and local flora. Alligator sightings are common in these waters, but your guide is trained to ensure safety at all times during this family-friendly outing. After your tour concludes, relax with transport back to your hotel in New Orleans.

We had an AMAZING experience on Captain Ernie’s swamp tour. We saw alligators, birds and were highly entertained by Captain Ernie educational explanations of life in the marshes. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this highlight to our trip.

Captain Ernie was very knowledgeable and informative. We were even able to find a few Gators in the winter and learned a lot of new things about them. Very good tour

Transportation from my hotel was easy and convenient. The airboat ride was a lot of fun. Our captain was experienced, friendly and entertaining. The scenery is beautiful, but not anything super. It is a swamp after all. But it was a nice experience to have tried this once. If you're looking to do something different and off the beaten path. Give it a try.
(if you go in winter dress warmly no matter what the forecast says!)

I booked my tour through Viator, I paid $75 per person (including transportation) for a large airboat tour. When booking through a 3rd party site, make sure to call and confirm your reservation. We were picked up at our hotel around 12:45 (we were told to be waiting 12:30-1pm and look out for the bus). Note that the buses used by Louisiana Tour Company have a different name on their side: "Alert Transportation." It's a 40 minute ride from the French Quarter, and when you arrive there's time to use the bathroom and visit the gift shop. Then you'll wait at the terminal for your boat and be directed where to hop on. Our guide explained things to us at the beginning of the ride, so be sure to listen then because the rest of the ride was all about wearing headphones to protect your ears from the airboat's noise. I went in January on a 55 degree day for the 2pm tour, and we saw 2 small alligators together on a bank - this was it. The guide did pull a live baby alligator out of his backpack to show us and let us hold, which was cool! Still a bit bummed we didn't see other wildlife, so it's really best to go in warmer weather to see things. I also wish our guide had whipped the airboat around a little more but I heard it’s better on a smaller airboat regardless the tour was enjoyable. If you're going on a day colder than 60 degrees- bundle up!! It gets colder than you expect.
